Way forward in foreign education Indian students post-COVID

Despite the ups and downs in the relationship between India and the United States of America (and there have been many more ups than downs in recent years), one thing remains constant: the flow of Indian students to major universities in America. The only thing that did get in the way, temporarily, was understandably enough, COVID.

Now, the number of students going to the United States is increasing after the temporary blip last year. If about 62,000 students went to the United States last year, many more are expected this year and the US President, Joe Biden, has made it clear that students will get priority when it comes to visas.

Most Indian students are applying to the STEM or science, technology, engineering and mathematics sectors– and 70 per cent of them are looking at maths, computer science and engineering. About 40 per cent of the 170,000 students are working towards post-graduate degrees and about 45 per cent are undergoing practical training.
